We must always remember our founders, their voices, their hopes and dreams for this fraternity. We have a rich history filled with stories of our triumphs and tribulations. It is our task to believe in the Seven Jewels.
We must change our concept of just wanting to "reclaim" a brother back to Alpha. Brothers who are inactive, have been inactive for many reasons including personal, family commitment and financial. There are Brothers who have simply lost interest in the fraternity due to local chapter politics and subsequently lose interest. These are the brothers that we need to restore the true spirit of fraternity and after a period of restoration, we can then reclaim them back to the bonds of Alpha.
We must revisit our mission, our objectives and our goals. This has been recently accomplished with the Strategic plan, which was an excellent exercise in doing self introspection of the components of the fraternity that currently guide our programs.
We must renew vigorously our ties with several significant landmark organizations that are joined at the hip with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. They include the NAACP, the National Urban League and the United Negro College Fund. These are the core groups in our community!
We must continue to rededicate ourselves to the oath that we took when we became an Alpha and to the preamble of the constitution which is our guiding force for the fraternity.
We must recommit ourselves to the youth who march onward and upward toward the light. Alpha Phi Alpha must take a visible and more vocal role in the efforts to help our young black men. With the King Memorial Project nearing completion, we can expend our resources, talents, and gifts to rescuing our young black men and offering them hope in many hopeless situations. In the end, this will be our greatest legacy to mankind.
We must tap into the untapped human capital in Alpha otherwise known as our beloved brotherhood. There are brothers in Alpha who have never been asked to share their gifts, talents and resources. These are the brothers that can reinvigorate the fraternity and bring new insight and energy to our bond. New names must be added to that list of prominent names in Alpha. There are brothers of all ages doing great things and we must identify them for this next century of leadership and service.
