"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely,
whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy; meditate on these things."-- Phillipians 4:8
"I mean by this regardless of the many, many purposes each of us may devise as the activating principle in our life and the many goals toward which we may be striving, I can see, nevertheless, that we do have one supreme purpose for our existence as a fraternity, and that is the recognition, as well as the development and thereby the making of better men." Jewel Charles Henry Chapman, 1931

The Consummate Brother
What inspires the musician? Who assist the chemist? Who answers the clarion call?
When I first crossed the burning sands into the land of the Mystic Sphinx, I was admonished, along with the cluster lines of Spring 89 by an old warrior, Past General President Raymond Cannon, to "Be A Better Brother Than The Best Brother You Know." It would take time to realize I was standing in counsel of a giant. A man small in stature, beloved by our Fraternity, revered for his pioneering efforts in the pursuit of human progress, and recorded in the catacombs of academia for his educational achievements.
To be a better Brother than the BEST Brother you have ever known is a hard charge to fulfill. Who amongst us can say, they are the best Brother they know? In scale of priority, where does Alpha rank in your life. For some of us, the position shifts amongst the basics God, Family, & Career. But for Brothers like Herman "Skip" Mason, Jr. the fraternity is backdrop to all actions in his being. Brother Mason has for years devoted his efforts to spreading the "Good News" about Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Years of scholarly work and volumes of research have been documented and uncovered to show the world the majesty of our Fraternity.
Brother Mason is consummate Brother. Alpha has been first and foremost on his heart since he crossed the burning sands and since those days he has fallen under the tutelage of Greatest Alpha men that existed in his time. This is not by happenstance. Brother Mason has been molded for the next progressive step in his Alpha Life. It is his time to serve the Brotherhood like his mentors have done before him. I cannot think of a better Brother than Skip to lead us through the next 100 years. God gave us men to build and sustain this magnificent organization. God must give us men to advance the spirit of Brotherhood and we must recognize those who possess the gifts and talents needed to bring about the high luster that is only deserving of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. In times of darkness, we seek light. As Brother Mason has provided a strong beacon for decades to lost sheep of our flock, allow Brother Mason illuminate the Brotherhood so that old Fraternal will again be the norm, and not the exception.
